On July 15th, CICETE Deputy Direct-General Zhang Yi attended the regional session of the Global Technical Meeting (GTM2020) on Reimaging Volunteering for the 2030 Agenda.

As a special event during the United Nations High-level Political ForumHLPF, GTM2020 was held jointly by UN Volunteers Programme (UNV) and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the first online global technical meeting held by UN during the pandemic. The meeting brought together representatives and volunteers from different regions and fields of voluntary services around the world, and had an in-depth discussion on the development of volunteering.

Deputy Director-General Zhang Yi stated in his speech that volunteering should expand its coverage, and keep focusing on providing effective assistance to developing countries. Against the background of the global pandemic, volunteering actions could be well mobilized to respond to global crisis. Innovative development should also be adhered to, by embedding technology in volunteering applications. As the national implementing partner of UNV projects in China, CICETE is fully committed to promoting SDGs through cooperative volunteer-related projects.
